Presentation of a collective monograph titled “Digital Technologies for Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language”
On December 26, 2023, a presentation of the scientific and methodological work of participants in the project “Professional Development for Instructors of Pre-service Teachers” (TESOL Faculty United for Ukraine) took place at the Department of Foreign Languages and Teaching Methods of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University. This project, under the auspices of Childhood Education International (Centre for Professional Learning), Hunter College, City University of New York, and RELO at the US Embassy in Ukraine, brought together 30 leading experts in English language teaching methodologies from across Ukraine, aiming to enhance the preparation of domestic English language teachers.
During the workshop, the authors presented a collective monograph titled “Digital Technologies for Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language.” This collaborative effort, authored by Irina Shkola, Bohdana Saliuk (Berdyansk State Pedagogical University), Natalia Antonenko (Rivne State Humanities University), Tetiana Konovalenko (Bogdan Khmelnitsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University), Natalia Prokopchuk (Zhytomyr State University named after Ivan Franko), Hanna Podosinnikova (Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko), Marina Shevchenko (Donbas State Pedagogical University), and Tetiana Korol (National University “Yuri Kondratyuk Poltava Polytechnic”), focuses on helping pre-service and in-service English teachers, as well as university educators, integrate digital tools into their language classes. The monograph explores modern educational digitalized approaches and methods.
Additionally, the workshop introduced a teaching manual titled “4 Elements in the ESL/EFL Classroom: a Teacher’s Handbook of Activities,” authored by Irina Shkola, Bohdana Saliuk (Berdyansk State Pedagogical University), and Marina Shevchenko (Donbas State Pedagogical University). This manual, tailored for both in-service and pre-service English teachers, as well as aspiring educators in the field of English language and foreign literature, innovatively associates language activities with the natural elements of fire, air, water, and earth. The manual provides clear instructions, learning objectives, and versatile options, including the integration of digital technologies, offering a unique approach to enhancing language skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Notably, the activities in the manual are adaptable to various subjects and cater to different language proficiency levels, making it a flexible and valuable resource for educators.
